SCOTTISH HIGHLANDS

DISCOVER THE SCOTTISH HIGHLANDS THROUGH TOUCH, SOUND, AND STORY

This specially designed walking holiday invites blind and partially sighted travellers to explore the stunning landscapes of the Scottish Highlands through accessible nature walks and immersive, hands-on experiences.

Over five days, you’ll gently explore ancient Caledonian pine forests, stroll across open moorland, and walk alongside peaceful lochs and coastal trails, all with the support of an experienced local guide, your Seable Tour Leader, and our trained sighted guides.

What makes this trip truly unique are the tactile workshops arranged in the national parks, where you’ll learn about local plants, trees, and wildlife through touch and sound. Listen to birdsong in the wild, feel the textures of Scottish flora, and connect with nature in a meaningful, accessible way.

With storytelling, local insights, and a friendly group atmosphere, this is more than just a walking tour, it’s a full sensory journey into one of the most beautiful and remote parts of the UK.

Weather in Aviemore in April

In April, Aviemore and the surrounding Cairngorms experience early spring conditions, with average temperatures ranging from 1°C to 13°C. Failt to bonny Scotland! We welcome you on this wonderful walking expedition!

Travel north, perhaps by train, to the enchanting beauty of the Cairngorms National Park. Disembark in the village of Aviemore, where your guide and sighted guides will be waiting on the platform.

This afternoon, you will visit a nature reserve at nearby Loch Garten. A short walk in the pine forest will be accompanied by birdsong and dappled light.

Later, return to Aviemore to check into the accommodation. Once you arrive at your accommodation, your sighted guide will help you check in and do a room orientation. Here, you can have some time to unpack and relax before you meet again to go over your holiday itinerary one more time. Then you can have some time to rest and prepare for dinner.

DAY 2: THE ANGEL'S LOCHAN AND RYVOAN PASS

The Seable UK tour leader and local sighted guide will enjoy a delicious first breakfast with you!

Today, we will explore the Rothiemurchus Forest and beyond on a hike to a stunningly located loch. Our route follows a good trail through ancient pine trees and a narrow pass before reaching the lochan, which sparkles green in the sunshine, leading to many myths and local legends about why that is! If we have the energy, we’ll continue beyond the lochan, breaking out of the forest and onto open heather moors to Ryvoan pass.

After returning to the accommodation, you can rest and freshen up, ready for dinner close by.

Journey time: full-day walking activity (10 km) Breakfast and lunch included

DAY 3: CULLODEN BATTLEFIELD & CLAVA CAIRNS

After a lovely breakfast, we will head north this morning to visit Culloden Battlefield, where the Jacobite Rebellion, led by Bonnie Prince Charlie, came to a bloody end. Learn about one of the most harrowing battles in Scottish history and walk across the rough moor where the Jacobites and the Government fought in 1746.

After lunch, we continue our walk to Clava Cairns, one of Scotland’s finest prehistoric sites, built to house the dead around 4,000 years ago, before returning to Aviemore.

Following a well-deserved rest in the guest house, we head out for a traditional dinner nearby.

Journey time: full-day walking activity (13 km) Breakfast and lunch included

DAY 4: CAIRNGORMS

Today, enjoy a hike in the beautiful Cairngorms National Park. At over 4500 sq km, it is the largest National Park in the UK and makes it Scotland’s most prolific whisky-making region with miles of winding rivers. Led by your sighted guide, we will start from a high trailhead and head out into the foothills below the cliff-bound Northern Corries. It’s a high mountain environment, so it’s a real contrast to the previous days. Scotland’s only herd of reindeer roam free in this area, but in case we miss them, we will visit their local paddock after our hike so you can get a closeup and learn about how they came to be here.

A final night in Aviemore allows us to reflect on a special few days together.

Journey time: full-day walking activity (10 km) Breakfast and lunch included
